As an atheist who believes people have souls & along with the knowledge that we all have loved or will love someone who dies before you. This place of worship is idealy placed as it was in Roman times & before that the Celts who will have also placed offerings & praises to the spirits here.Its 3 to take lots of photos of the magnificent stained glass window's which obviously try to convey the greatest story ever told to a non literate congregation. There is high & low church represented & an organist who evokes a depth of feeling of being Spiritualized.I have attended my Uncle Michael's funeral here & my degree graduation ceremony in business computing, where I was photographed & appeared in the Doncaster Free Press throwing my mortar board hat outside the Minster. Yes this place of worship certainty plays a significant place in my life story, believe me.
Seeped in history. Such a nice building. Me and my daughter went to see the moon replica event and it was so fantastic. Nice friendly people who volunteer.
Architecture is quite nice, but they did have 200 years to build it, so that's probably par for the course, to be honest. Have kept my eye on the place for a while to see if they do any special offers on certain days, but sadly not. My favourite takeaway does free garlic bread on orders over 20 Monday-Thursday, so it is a little disappointing to see you don't get an extra 25% redemption or anything like that for going on a weekday. Sunday's seem quite popular, though, and there are free wafers and wine, which does look lovely. I also met a nice vicar nearby which I am led to believe is not unrelated. All in all worth a visit, especially if you like sandstone architecture or eternal salvation.
A lovely Victorian Minster Church designed by George Gilbert Scott to replace a previous church destroyed by fire. In the English perpendicular style. It stands on an elevated mound in the historic Roman part of the town, fort & crossing of the river Don. The settlement was known as Danum. The Minster has a magnificent East window, a celebrated Schultze organ, a grand nave & choir. The splendid tower has a clock with no faces. The quarter & hourly chimes ring out & are clearly heard all over the centre of the town.
Visited the Minster to see the Museum of the Moon. Great exhibition glad we had the chance to see this. The minster it's self is well worth a visit. The stain glass windows are really nice.
